Prince Saud bin Talal bin Badr inaugurated Saudi Arabia's first hydrogen-powered bus trial. The bus can travel 635 kilometers on one charge and holds 45 passengers. It will operate between Dammam and Al-Ahsa, covering 359 kilometers daily. This service is part of SATCO's intercity transport operations in the southern concession area.

The event was attended by Dr. Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih, Vice Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and acting President of the Transport General Authority (TGA). During the ceremony, attendees watched a video detailing hydrogen buses' operation, fueling process, safety standards, and environmental benefits.

Launch of First Hydrogen-Powered Bus in Saudi Arabia

Prince Saud highlighted that launching the hydrogen-powered bus in Al-Ahsa aligns with Saudi Vision 2030. This initiative promotes environmental sustainability and eco-friendly technologies. He expressed joy that Al-Ahsa is leading these initiatives to enhance life quality and provide modern transportation for residents and visitors.

Dr. Rumaih emphasized the TGA's commitment to innovation and sustainable transport methods that reduce carbon emissions. This aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. This inauguration is part of several innovative projects by the TGA to enhance transportation services in Saudi Arabia. Previously, they issued a license for a hydrogen-powered train to the Saudi Railway Company (SAR) and launched a public hydrogen taxi in Jeddah.

Sustainability Efforts in Transportation

The launch of this hydrogen-powered bus contributes to sustainability efforts within Saudi Arabia's transportation sector. It aligns with national environmental initiatives like the Saudi Green Initiative, showcasing a commitment to pioneering eco-friendly solutions.

Prince Saud toured Al-Ahsa with participants after the inauguration ceremony. He noted that these initiatives are crucial for improving transportation services' quality, safety, and innovation in Al-Ahsa.
