Saudi Wildlife Center Welcomes First Female Caracal Cubs
The National Center for Wildlife (NCW) has announced the first successful birth of a female Caracal with two cubs at the Prince Saud Al-Faisal Wildlife Research Center in Taif. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the center's breeding program, which began in 2022 with 16 individuals. The program aims to conserve wildlife, maintain ecosystem balance, and enrich biodiversity, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030.
Dr. Mohammed Qurban, CEO of the National Center for Wildlife, expressed his delight over this milestone. "We are delighted to announce this milestone, which emphasizes the success of our efforts to rehabilitate ecosystems and enhance balance," he said. Dr. Qurban highlighted that this achievement showcases their commitment to conserving endangered species and expanding breeding programs.

The Prince Saud Al-Faisal Wildlife Research Center was established in 1986 to breed and reintroduce local endangered species into their natural habitats. The center also monitors their progress post-release. It houses eight breeding programs for species such as the Asina Houbara, Arabian oryx, Common Ostrich, Arabian leopard, Arabian Mountain gazelle, Nubian ibex, Caracal, and Arabian hare.
NCW has invested significantly in upgrading and preparing Caracal enclosures at the research center. This investment has led to marked improvements in breeding and care programs for this majestic species. The launch of breeding and reintroduction programs for local predators like the lynx coincides with expanding protected areas to provide suitable habitats.
The presence of predators in the wild ensures ecological balance by maintaining food chains and contributing to ecosystem integrity. Dr. Qurban emphasized NCW's dedication to supporting efforts to breed and reintroduce endangered species into their natural habitats through specialized scientific programs and activities leveraging information technology.
Partnerships and Initiatives
NCW collaborates with local and global experts to implement ambitious environmental initiatives aimed at protecting biodiversity in Saudi Arabia. These initiatives promote best practices for environmental conservation within a comprehensive legislative framework.
The Prince Saud Al-Faisal Wildlife Research Center's success aligns with the National Environmental Strategy and the Saudi Green Initiative. These efforts are part of Saudi Vision 2030's broader goals to enhance environmental sustainability across the Kingdom.
This remarkable achievement underscores NCW's ongoing success in implementing these initiatives, demonstrating their commitment to environmental conservation and biodiversity protection.
