Saudi Arabia Enhances Logistics With First Rail Shipment From Jubail To Riyadh

On Saturday, April 27, a significant development in the transportation and logistics sector was marked by the first container shipment being transported by rail from Jubail Commercial Port to Riyadh Dry Port. This initiative, as announced by the Saudi Ports Authority, Mawani, is set to enhance the efficiency of transportation and logistics across the Kingdom. The shipment comprised 78 TEUs and utilized the railway connecting Jubail Commercial Port with the East Train Network, boasting a maximum capacity of 140 TEUs per trip.

The successful operation was the result of a collaborative effort involving Mawani, the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZATCA), Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), and the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). This partnership underscores a strategic move towards achieving an integrated transport system for containers, bulk materials, and general cargo within the Kingdom. SAR's network plays a pivotal role in this integration, connecting Riyadh Dry Port with major ports including King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam, King Fahd Industrial Port in Jubail, Jubail Commercial Port, and Ras Al-Khair Port.

This enhanced connectivity not only offers a competitive edge to these ports but also significantly improves loading and unloading services. The railway network is instrumental in increasing the efficiency of logistics operations and solidifying Saudi Arabia's position as a global logistics hub that bridges three continents. Furthermore, it elevates the quality of services at the ports by introducing innovative logistics solutions that boost the efficiency of exports and imports.

"This initiative will provide logistical support to industrial and commercial ports in the Kingdom, enhancing their competitiveness and supporting trade by offering safe and sustainable solutions that reduce harmful emissions and help preserve the environment," stated Mawani. In early April, Mawani entered into a partnership agreement with SAR to establish a unified framework for cargo transportation via railways. This move aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to create a more integrated and efficient transportation network across Saudi Arabia.
