Saudi Film Commission Marks Successful Participation At 77th Cannes Film Festival

The Film Commission has concluded its participation in the 77th Cannes Film Festival, held from May 14 to 25. This annual event in Cannes, France, is a significant gathering for filmmakers, producers, distributors, and cinema professionals worldwide. Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Qahtani, CEO of the Film Commission, expressed his satisfaction with the participation, describing it as unique.

Al-Qahtani noted that several factors enriched the commission's experience over four years. "This participation holds its significance because it represents a lens through which we can reflect what is happening in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for ourselves and for the world," said Al-Qahtani. He highlighted the valuable opportunity the festival provided for meeting international partners, producers, organizers, and representatives from archival centres.

"This festival serves as a cultural cinematic bridge, conveying our voice and enabling us to listen to the voices of others," he stated. This year marked the Film Commission's inaugural participation in the festival, featuring a dedicated Saudi Arabia pavilion and a section for production and distribution companies from the private sector.

This setup facilitated effective communication, collaboration, and the exchange of diverse perspectives on the commission's projects. It ultimately worked towards strengthening the local cinematic scene and enhancing the commission's global presence. Leveraging their participation, the commission successfully introduced their projects, strategic initiatives, and global media coverage.

The commission highlighted the cultural richness and diversity of filming locations in Saudi Arabia. Their presence at Cannes underscored their commitment to cinematic progress and cultural exchange. As part of their engagement, the Saudi film "Norah" was screened in Cannes' Un Certain Regard section, receiving special recognition from the festival's jury.
