Fashion Commission Concludes Saudi Heritage Revival Initiative In Collaboration With Swarovski
The Fashion Commission has wrapped up its "Saudi Heritage Revival: Arts and Handcrafts" initiative. This program aimed to rejuvenate traditional Saudi handcrafts and support new designers through practical training and creative growth. Held at the Future Creative Residence (FCR), the initiative supports national goals to preserve cultural heritage while encouraging sustainable fashion practices.
Participants engaged in a five-day workshop series led by experts, focusing on modern uses of traditional embroidery and beadwork. The workshops also explored the innovative use of Swarovski crystals in contemporary design. Both technical skills and conceptual learning were emphasized, allowing designers to incorporate Saudi cultural elements into unique fashion pieces.

After completing the training, participants created garments inspired by Saudi traditions. They received individual feedback from Swarovski specialists, enhancing their designs. Designers also had access to a professional studio for photographing their final looks before these were evaluated by a jury.
The initiative concluded with a ceremony at FCR where participants showcased their completed designs. The jury announced Rola Mutlaq Alanzi as the competition winner. The top five designers included Rola Mutlaq Alanzi, Abdullah Al-Bargi, Latifa Al-Buajan, Hadeel Abdulaziz, and Arwa Al-Suhaim. These designers were nominated for Swarovski's international academic competition.
The Fashion Commission remains dedicated to nurturing local talent and promoting traditional crafts. By providing designers with technical skills, cultural insights, and global industry perspectives, this initiative strengthens the foundation of a sustainable fashion ecosystem that respects Saudi heritage while embracing modern design.
This program not only highlights the importance of preserving cultural heritage but also demonstrates how traditional crafts can be integrated into contemporary fashion. Through initiatives like this, the Fashion Commission continues to play a vital role in fostering creativity and innovation within Saudi Arabia's fashion industry.
