Extraordinary Arab And Islamic Summit In Riyadh Issues Resolution Supporting Palestine And Condemning Israeli Actions

The Extraordinary Arab and Islamic Summit in Riyadh concluded with a resolution addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Leaders from the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation gathered at the invitation of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The summit, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, focused on Israeli aggression against Palestinians and reaffirmed support for Palestinian rights.

Participants emphasised the importance of Palestinian sovereignty over East Al-Quds, rejecting any Israeli measures to alter its status. They declared such actions as null under international law. The summit underscored solidarity in protecting the Arab and Islamic identity of East Al-Quds and defending its holy sites.

Summit in Riyadh Supports Palestine and Condemns Israel

The summit expressed unwavering support for Lebanon's security and stability. It condemned Israeli aggression against Lebanon, calling for an immediate ceasefire. The leaders urged adherence to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which addresses peacekeeping efforts in Lebanon.

Additionally, the summit condemned attacks on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon by Israel. It demanded accountability for ensuring their safety. The leaders also stressed supporting Lebanese constitutional institutions to maintain national unity and stability.

The resolution highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza due to ongoing Israeli aggression. It called for an end to collective punishment tactics like siege and starvation. The summit urged international action to ensure safe humanitarian access to Gaza.

Efforts by Egypt and Qatar, alongside the United States, were acknowledged for seeking a ceasefire in Gaza. However, Israel was held responsible for hindering these efforts by retracting agreements reached during negotiations.

International Legal Actions

The summit called on the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants for Israeli officials involved in crimes against Palestinians. It also urged countries to ban arms exports to Israel, supporting a Turkish-led initiative endorsed by several nations.

The leaders insisted on implementing UN resolutions related to civilian protection and legal obligations. They called for a binding Security Council resolution compelling Israel to cease fire in Gaza and allow humanitarian aid entry.

Condemnation of Israeli Policies

The summit condemned enforced displacement of Palestinians as a war crime violating international law. It rejected any attempts at altering Al-Quds' legal status or recognising it as Israel's capital, deeming such actions illegal.

Furthermore, the leaders denounced Israeli settlers' terrorist acts against Palestinians, urging accountability. They advocated boycotting products from Israeli settlements and classifying settler movements as terrorist organisations.

Palestinian Statehood Advocacy

The resolution supported Palestine's full membership in the United Nations, urging member states to back this initiative. It welcomed efforts by Algeria at the Security Council level towards this goal.

The summit commended countries recognising Palestine's statehood and encouraged others to follow suit. It highlighted the "International Alliance to Implement the Two-State Solution," launched by Saudi Arabia with global partners.

Regional Peace Efforts

A comprehensive peace ensuring regional stability was deemed unattainable without ending Israeli occupation of Arab territories up to pre-1967 lines. The leaders reaffirmed commitment to relevant UN resolutions and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.

The joint ministerial committee led by Saudi Arabia was tasked with intensifying efforts towards ending aggression on Lebanon. Periodic reports will be circulated among member states regarding progress made.

The summit concluded with a call for continued international support towards resolving conflicts in Palestine and Lebanon while ensuring regional peace through diplomatic means aligned with international laws and resolutions.
