Expo City Dubai Welcomes Global Leaders For Asia Pacific Cities Summit And Mayors’ Forum

Expo City Dubai's Al Wasl Plaza became the focal point for city leaders worldwide as it hosted the Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum. This event, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, highlighted Dubai’s pivotal role in fostering sustainable urban growth. The summit commenced with an opening ceremony featuring a captivating light display and a performance by the Firdaus Orchestra.

The summit was inaugurated by Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and CEO of Expo City Dubai Authority, alongside Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary General of The Executive Council of Dubai. The Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Councillor Adrian Schrinner, also participated, marking the first time this influential forum has been held in the region in its 29-year history.

Speakers at the event stressed the importance of collaboration and shared learning among city leaders. They aimed to transform ideas into actionable strategies to enhance citizens' lives through practical partnerships and knowledge exchange. This gathering provided a platform for cities to share best practices and forge strategic alliances.

Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti remarked on Dubai's honour in hosting this summit, stating: "As a platform for global connection and a hub for innovation, Dubai is honoured to host this influential summit of global cities. Expo City – a blueprint for sustainable urban development – is the ideal place for cities to take the much-needed opportunity to share best practices, forge strategic partnerships and improve the liveability, equity, and economies of urban centres everywhere."

The event underscored Dubai's status as a global hub for sustainable urban development. It served as an opportunity for over 150 mayors and leaders from more than 300 cities worldwide to gather at the Dubai Exhibition Centre from 27-29 October. This initiative by Brisbane City Council was delivered by Expo City Dubai.

The summit's opening ceremony set an inspiring tone for three days dedicated to innovation and cross-city collaboration. The event aimed to foster inclusive growth and future-ready urban planning through shared insights among participating city leaders.

This significant gathering highlighted the importance of turning collaborative ideas into action plans that can improve urban life globally. By hosting such forums, Dubai continues to strengthen its position as a leader in promoting sustainable urban development.
