Riyadh Expo 2030: Saudi Arabia Shares Major Developments On The Master Plan
Saudi Arabia has made significant advancements in its preparations for hosting the Expo 2030 in Riyadh, as unveiled during the 175th General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in Paris.
With 5 years to go, the Saudi delegation shared major updates on the event's theme, visual identity, master plan, and readiness strategies. This global event is set to redefine innovation and cooperation on the world stage, with Saudi Arabia at its helm.
The master plan for Expo 2030 Riyadh, revealed by Mazin Al Furaih, features a sprawling 6-million-square-meter site with a gated area of 2 million square meters. It will host over 200 pavilions across five themed zones, designed with flexibility and sustainability at their core.
The site's strategic location near key landmarks enhances its distinct identity, ensuring a harmonious blend with its surroundings. Al Furaih emphasized the plan's vision and legacy, aiming to set a new benchmark for global collaboration.
The Riyadh Expo Development Company, pivotal for the event's seamless execution, was established as part of the strategic developments. With a CEO and a board of directors, the company is tasked with overseeing strategic planning, operations, and engaging international participants. This establishment marks a significant milestone towards ensuring the successful delivery of Expo 2030.
In tandem with these developments, Saudi Arabia is gearing up for active participation in Expo 2025 Osaka. Ghida Al Shibl highlighted plans to host workshops and events aimed at gathering insights and empowering global participants to contribute to the Riyadh Expo. This proactive approach underscores the Kingdom's commitment to fostering global collaboration and innovation.
The theme for Expo 2030, 'Foresight for Tomorrow,' encompasses three critical subthemes: Transformational Technology, Sustainable Solutions, and Prosperous People. Al Shibl elaborated on these subthemes' focus on inspiring action and enhancing global cooperation.
The governance framework, led by the Expo High Committee chaired by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, ensures the event's alignment with national priorities, with the Public Investment Fund-backed Expo Development Company managing logistics and legacy planning.
Abdulaziz Alghannam, Senior General Director of Expo 2030 Riyadh, shed light on the city's readiness program and the significant milestones achieved since Riyadh's selection as the host city. The program evaluates Riyadh's capacity and ensures necessary investments, aiming for the event's official registration supported by the Sea Agreement and a comprehensive registration dossier due in early 2025. Alghannam's updates on the theme, subthemes, and visual identity reflect expert feedback and collaborative efforts, emphasizing that "Expo 2030 Riyadh belongs to us all."
The Riyadh Expo 2030 is strategically located near the King Salman International Airport, with the "Riyadh Metro" network facilitating swift access to the exhibition site. This accessibility is designed to enhance visitor experience, allowing them to reach the site within minutes.
The exhibition's design, reflecting Riyadh's ancient urban style and commitment to climate concerns, features 226 spherical pavilions with an equator line symbolizing equal opportunities for all participants.
The pavilions, positioned based on participating countries' longitudes, will stand side by side, symbolizing global cooperation. This arrangement, along with fully shaded corridors inspired by Riyadh's architectural heritage, ensures a comfortable and flexible visitor experience. A modern green oasis and a landmark representing "Responsibility for Protecting the Planet" further highlight the Kingdom's dedication to sustainability and innovation.
