Expand North Star Elevates Dubai’s Role As A Global Capital Of The Digital Economy
Expand North Star, the largest global event for startups and investors, will celebrate its 10th edition from 12-15 October at Dubai Harbour. Organised by Dubai World Trade Centre and hosted by Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy, this event underscores a decade of enhancing Dubai's status as a hub for the digital economy. It aligns with the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33).
The event has grown significantly since its inception in 2016. The number of countries represented by participating companies and investors increased from 39 in 2016 to over 100 in the upcoming edition. This growth reflects Expand North Star's role as a gateway to investment opportunities for entrepreneurs worldwide.

Since its launch, the number of digital startups participating has surged from 350 in 2016 to 1,800 in the current edition, marking a growth of 414 percent. Similarly, investor participation rose from 150 to 1,200 during this period, representing an increase of 700 percent.
The scale of activities at Expand North Star has also expanded. The number of speakers grew from 25 in 2016 to 650 last year. This expansion highlights the event's importance as a platform for sharing ideas and securing funding for early-stage ventures.
Saeed Al Gergawi, Vice President of Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy, stated, "Since its inception in 2016, Expand North Star has played a pivotal role in supporting Dubai’s vision of becoming a global centre for innovation and entrepreneurship in advanced technologies." He emphasised that the event empowers entrepreneurs and investors globally to explore growth opportunities in Dubai.
Al Gergawi added that the Chamber is committed to building on Expand North Star's success as it enters its tenth edition. The focus remains on attracting the global tech community and showcasing Dubai’s competitive advantages as a leading destination for digital companies.
Opportunities for Startups
Expand North Star is crucial for shaping investment and entrepreneurship across digital industries. It provides startups with access to tools, guidance, and networks needed to transform ideas into successful ventures. The event offers insights into strategies behind some of the world’s most successful digital businesses.
The importance of Expand North Star is underscored by last year's participation of 65 unicorn companies with a combined market value exceeding US$400 billion. The event also hosted ‘YouthX Unipreneur,’ the UAE’s largest youth-focused initiative in startups and innovation.
Innovative Experiences and Challenges
The exhibition programme featured pioneering experiences across various tech sectors like blockchain, fintech, deep tech, climate tech, AI, and Web3 technologies. This enriched visitors' knowledge significantly. Entrepreneurs can compete for up to US$200,000 funding through the Supernova Challenge this year.
This challenge provides essential tools and networks needed to turn innovative business ideas into thriving digital ventures. It equips entrepreneurs with specialised knowledge to scale their businesses internationally while offering networking opportunities with top global minds in technology.
