European Parliament Delegation Reviews UAE's Significant Progress In Human Rights Efforts

The National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) recently hosted a high-level delegation from the European Parliament. The visit aimed to discuss the UAE's advancements in human rights. The delegation commended the NHRI for its efforts in promoting human rights culture, strategic initiatives, and its active participation with global human rights bodies.

The NHRI's collaboration with international organisations, especially the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), was particularly noted. Maqsoud Kruse, Chairperson of the NHRI, and Dr. Saeed Al Ghufli, Secretary-General of the NHRI, welcomed the delegation.

UAE's Human Rights Efforts Reviewed by EU Delegation

Reinhold Lopatka led the European Parliament delegation. He was joined by Abir Al-Sahlani, Hana Jalloul, and Antonio López, all representatives from Spain and Sweden in the European Parliament. Their presence underscored the importance of international cooperation in human rights.

Lucía Berger, EU Ambassador to the UAE; Simona Moriano from Middle East Affairs; Kathleen Hopgen, an assistant in Middle East Affairs; Jan Williams and Joost Hermans, both Political Affairs Advisors, also attended. This diverse group highlighted the broad interest in UAE's human rights progress.

Maqsoud Kruse stated that "this visit reflects the growing importance that international institutions place on the active role of the NHRI in promoting and protecting human rights." He further expressed dedication to enhancing policies that position the UAE as a leader in respecting human rights standards.

The visit marks a second engagement by a European Parliament delegation since 2022. It signifies increasing recognition of NHRI’s strategic role in safeguarding human rights and its commitment to transparency and dialogue with global partners.

The delegation praised NHRI’s regional and international involvement with various human rights organisations. They acknowledged its efforts to foster dialogue and cooperation on a global scale.
