EU Ambassador Highlights Strong Ties As Saudi Arabia Wins Bid To Host 2034 World Cup
The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Christophe Farnaud, extended his congratulations to Saudi Arabia for securing the bid to host the 2034 World Cup. He acknowledged the Kingdom's leadership and its people for this achievement. "The EU shares vital relations with the Kingdom in various fields," he stated.
Farnaud highlighted the recent summit between the EU and the Gulf Cooperation Council, which has further elevated their cooperation to new heights. He noted that sports is a key area of focus for Saudi Arabia, and Europe is keen on enhancing its ties with the Kingdom in this domain. The ambassador remarked, "Sports is one of the key areas and a highly significant strategy for the Kingdom."

The ambassador pointed out a growing interest in Saudi football within Europe. This interest stems from the recruitment of many European players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Aleksandar Mitrović. Additionally, 14 out of 18 club coaches in Saudi Arabia are Europeans, reflecting strong European influence in Saudi football.
Discussing sports' role in international relations, Farnaud emphasized that it can bridge connections between nations. Sports are intertwined with tourism and cultural exploration, fostering mutual understanding among different peoples.
