Etihad Rail Passenger Service Experience By Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi Ahead Of 2026 Launch
Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade, recently joined Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail, and other officials for a preview ride on Etihad Rail's upcoming passenger service. This service is set to begin in 2026. The journey covered the initial phase from Al Qudra in Dubai to Fujairah.
The passenger service will complement the existing freight operations, which aim to transport over 60 million tonnes annually by 2030. This addition will be crucial for the UAE’s transport network, enhancing mobility and supporting various industries nationwide.
Al Zeyoudi highlighted the transformative impact of the Etihad Rail project on both passenger and freight mobility across the UAE. He stated, "The launch of Etihad Rail’s passenger services will represent a critical step in our efforts to expand and upgrade the UAE’s transport network."
Shadi Malak expressed pride in showcasing the new passenger service to Dr. Al Zeyoudi. He remarked that this milestone reflects Etihad Rail’s dedication to developing an integrated transport network that boosts connectivity throughout the UAE.
Once operational, Etihad Rail's passenger service will link 11 cities from Al Sila in the west to Fujairah on the east coast. This connection aims to enhance access between major destinations while easing traffic congestion.
The trains are designed to carry up to 400 passengers each, with an expected annual ridership of 36.5 million by 2030. This development is part of broader efforts to improve regional integration and connectivity.
Infrastructure Investment and Environmental Goals
The ongoing preparations for next year's official launch highlight the UAE's commitment to investing in innovative infrastructure projects. These initiatives aim to boost connectivity while supporting the country's goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
The Etihad Rail network spans 900 kilometers across various emirates, linking Ghuwaifat with Fujairah. It plays a vital role in serving key ports like Khalifa Port, Jebel Ali Port, and Ruwais Port.
Enhancing Trade Capabilities
This rail system has already revolutionised local freight logistics, significantly boosting the UAE's trade capabilities. With an anticipated capacity of 60 million tonnes annually by 2030, it facilitates efficient movement from entry points to industrial zones.
The transportation of manufacturing outputs to critical nodes on global supply chains is also enabled by this extensive network. The project underscores the UAE’s dedication to advancing its infrastructure for sustainable economic growth.
