Etihad Rail Plans To Launch Passenger Services In 2026, Connecting Eleven Cities Across The UAE

Etihad Rail is advancing plans to launch passenger services by 2026, aligning with the UAE's vision for a comprehensive rail network. This initiative aims to enhance connectivity between cities and communities while adhering to top international standards. The network will play a crucial role in meeting passenger needs efficiently and safely.

Azza Alsuwaidi, Deputy CEO of Etihad Rail Mobility, highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships at the Global Rail 2025 exhibition in Abu Dhabi. These collaborations aim to ensure seamless journeys through integrated solutions with local transport providers and technology platforms. This approach will facilitate smooth first- and last-mile connections.

Etihad Rail to Launch Passenger Services in 2026

The company is committed to delivering a world-class passenger experience that prioritises comfort, reliability, and affordability. A "digital tickets first" strategy will be adopted to streamline travel processes. The rail network will feature routes entirely separate from roads, significantly reducing collision risks and enhancing safety for passengers.

Alsuwaidi emphasised that accurate timetables will be a hallmark of the service. Travel times are projected at 57 minutes from Abu Dhabi to Dubai, 105 minutes to Fujairah, and 70 minutes to Ruwais. Onboard amenities will include dedicated spaces for work or relaxation, allowing passengers to make the most of their journey.

The trains are designed with a capacity of 400 passengers per trip, offering multiple daily journeys. This setup aims to efficiently transport individuals, families, and groups across the UAE. Planning stations is integral to creating an accessible network that connects 11 cities from Al Sila in the west to Fujairah in the east.

Alsuwaidi reiterated Etihad Rail's commitment to launching passenger services by 2026 with quality, safety, and reliability as core principles throughout implementation stages. The high-speed rail project will link Abu Dhabi and Dubai at speeds up to 350 km/h, enabling travel between these cities in just 30 minutes.

Economic Impact

This high-speed rail initiative is expected to contribute approximately AED 145 billion to the UAE's GDP over fifty years. It will bolster the country's status as a leader in next-generation railway systems. The project underscores Etihad Rail's dedication to enhancing national infrastructure while supporting economic growth.
