Etihad Rail Unveils Innovation Centre To Drive Transport Solutions At Global Rail 2025

Etihad Rail, the UAE's national railway network developer, showcased its dedication to innovation at Global Rail 2025. The event, themed "Driving the Future of Transport and Global Connectivity," saw Etihad Rail introduce the Etihad Rail Innovation Centre (ERIC), the first national platform in the UAE focused on mobility innovation. Additionally, they announced winners of the second Global Rail Innovation Awards, offering a AED 1 million grant to accelerate promising innovations in rail and logistics.

The Etihad Rail Innovation Centre is a strategic investment aimed at establishing the UAE as a global transport innovation hub. ERIC will revolutionise regional movement by encouraging collaboration among industry experts, academia, startups, and government entities. This initiative aligns with national goals like UAE Vision 2031 and Net Zero 2050.

Etihad Rail Launches Innovation Centre at Global Rail 2025

ERIC's launch at Global Rail 2025 highlights the UAE's commitment to global mobility transformation. It will act as a national hub for advancing transport and logistics innovation by identifying, validating, and scaling new mobility solutions. These range from rail infrastructure to digital systems and intermodal connectivity.

Etihad Rail has already embarked on various innovative projects that ERIC will consolidate and expand. These include using robotics for inspection processes, testing magnetic rail technologies for energy-efficient travel, and developing internal ideas within Etihad Rail.

The centre will support Etihad Rail in project identification, idea acceleration, and commercialisation. It offers external partners spaces to showcase, test, and scale innovations. Startups and researchers can access incubation programs and opportunities to enter GCC markets and expand globally.

ERIC also serves as an industry hub for collaboration with government bodies, private sectors, universities, and startups. It embraces hybrid models that combine internal expertise with new joint ventures.

Awards Recognising Innovation

The second Global Rail Innovation Awards concluded at Global Rail 2025 following its successful first iteration. The awards provide an international platform to discover high-potential innovations in rail and logistics with a AED 1 million grant dedicated to bringing these ideas closer to market.

Ameera Al Khlaifi, Director of Strategy & Growth at Etihad Rail stated: "The Etihad Rail Innovation Centre (ERIC) will serve as a key driver of sustainable growth and smart mobility across the region. As the first of its kind in the UAE, it will accelerate the development of technologies and solutions that advance efficiency, safety, and sustainability."

Recognising Pioneering Solutions

The competition attracted 242 submissions globally—more than triple last year's entries—offering insights into future transport trends. After a rigorous evaluation process involving four steps, finalists showcased their projects during Global Rail 2025.
