Etihad Airways Achieves Milestone Of 20 Million Passengers And Expands Fleet Beyond 100 Aircraft
Etihad Airways is experiencing a remarkable year, achieving unprecedented milestones. For the first time, the airline has welcomed over 20 million passengers in a single year. Antonoaldo Neves, Etihad's CEO, stated, "The last 12 months have seen Etihad flying high, breaking records and achieving new milestones at an astonishing rate." This success follows a record-breaking Q1 with AED685 million profit and top customer satisfaction scores.
Etihad's growth trajectory is impressive, with passenger numbers doubling from 10 million to 20 million in just two and a half years. This expansion is driven by increasing demand, a dynamic global network, and strategic focus. Neves added, "We are the only airline in the region growing at this pace and we have no intention of slowing down. 2025 is proving to be our biggest year yet."

The airline has expanded its fleet by adding three more aircraft, bringing its operational fleet to over 100 planes. Recently, Etihad reintroduced its seventh Airbus A380 into service and received a new Boeing B787-9 from Charleston, US. Additionally, the first of three new Airbus 350-1000s was delivered today.
Etihad boasts one of the youngest fleets in the industry and continues to invest strategically to meet guest demand. The airline expects 18 new aircraft deliveries in 2025, including the A321LR fleet entering service on 1 August. These aircraft will feature First Suites, lie-flat Business seats, 4K screens, and high-speed Wi-Fi for connectivity during flights.
Earlier this year, Etihad announced an order for 28 wide-body Boeing aircraft to support growth plans. This move aims to enhance connectivity, operational efficiency, and guest experience. Following recent announcements of seven additional destinations, Etihad will have introduced 27 new routes this year.
This expansion reflects Etihad's ambition to increase visitors to Abu Dhabi by leveraging its strategic location connecting Europe and Asia. By the end of 2025, Etihad plans to fly to nearly 90 destinations worldwide as part of its strategy to support Abu Dhabi's economic growth.
Ambitious Future Goals
These achievements align with Etihad's ambitious growth strategy targeting over 125 destinations and a fleet exceeding 170 aircraft by 2030. The airline aims for passenger numbers to reach 38 million annually within this timeframe.
The rapid growth across all areas indicates that Etihad is set to surpass expectations outlined in its seven-year plan. This success highlights Abu Dhabi's robust aviation sector as a leading global gateway for passengers and cargo.
Etihad’s achievements are significant steps toward fulfilling its long-term goals while maintaining exceptional customer satisfaction levels. The airline’s continued success underscores its commitment to expanding its network and enhancing passenger experiences globally.
