Etihad Airways Launches Community Outreach Initiatives In Sri Lanka Focused On Education And Welfare
Etihad Airways has initiated several community outreach projects in Sri Lanka, reflecting its dedication to social responsibility beyond aviation. These initiatives are part of the airline's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, focusing on humanitarian aid, education, and community empowerment. The aim is to bring about sustainable change in the communities they engage with.
"Rooted in Etihad’s core values of unity and community, these efforts reflect our ongoing commitment to bringing people together for a shared purpose. With a firm belief that unity is a catalyst for meaningful progress, Etihad continues to foster collaboration, empower communities, and create a lasting impact wherever we operate," stated Dr. Nadia Bastaki, Chief People & Corporate Affairs Officer at Etihad Airways.

Etihad's employees from various departments collaborated with local engineering partners to implement impactful projects in Colombo and Kandy. This teamwork embodies the airline's core value of unity for a common cause. Their efforts have significantly improved infrastructure and resources in these areas.
In Kandy, Etihad supported Hendeniya School by enhancing its infrastructure. They renovated classrooms and established an IT section to promote digital literacy among students. Future plans include developing a library and nursery to offer more educational opportunities.
The airline also focused on humanitarian aid by supporting St. Joseph’s Orphanage in Colombo. They inaugurated new dormitory, kitchen, and canteen facilities during a ceremony, improving living conditions for 500 children. Essential resources like amenity bags and school supplies were provided to ensure the children's well-being.
Furthering their commitment to community empowerment, Etihad aided Hendeniya Mosque in Kandy with infrastructure improvements. The mosque now includes a women's section, an Arabic studies centre, and an expanded prayer area accommodating over 500 people.
Global Commitment to Positive Impact
"Etihad’s CSR efforts in Sri Lanka are part of our global commitment to making a positive impact. Last year, the airline’s community and volunteer programmes reached over 290,000 beneficiaries. As the UAE declares 2025 the Year of Community, we are proud to extend our efforts beyond the UAE, supporting communities across our global network," Dr. Nadia added.
These initiatives align with Etihad Airways' vision of uniting communities and driving positive change beyond borders. By focusing on humanitarian aid, education, and empowerment, they help underserved populations build brighter futures.
The launch of these CSR initiatives during Ramadan reflects values of compassion and generosity. Etihad continues its commitment to social responsibility by positively impacting lives within the communities it serves.
