Ethiopian Minister Lauds UAE's Efforts In Fostering Global Tolerance And Peace
Khairuddin Tezera, Ethiopia’s Minister of State for Peacebuilding and National Reconciliation, highlighted the UAE's significant role in promoting tolerance and coexistence globally. He emphasised the UAE’s initiatives in fostering international relations and building communication bridges among nations, which have helped mitigate intolerance and extremism, thus contributing to peace and stability.
Tezera made these remarks during a reception in Addis Ababa hosted by his office to honour a delegation from Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities (MBZUH), led by its chancellor Dr. Khalifa Mubarak Al Dhaheri. The meeting between the two parties focused on several areas of mutual interest, including organising scientific workshops to support global peace and stability efforts.

During the visit, Dr. Al Dhaheri also met with Sheikh Haji Ibrahim Tofa, President of the Supreme Islamic Council of Ethiopia. They explored potential cooperation areas to promote Islamic values and humanitarian principles that uphold human dignity and rights. This collaboration aims to elevate the human being’s right to a dignified life.
The MBZUH, along with the Ethiopian Ministry of Peace and the Ethiopian Islamic Council, agreed to organise the Addis Ababa Conference on Citizenship and Interreligious Peace. This conference will produce the Addis Ababa Document on Citizenship and Interreligious Peace, aiming to enhance communication and understanding between different religions through open dialogue forums.
The conference seeks to present ideas that will help reduce discrimination and strengthen Ethiopia’s efforts to promote coexistence. It will also discuss plans and strategies to support social peace and address common challenges faced by various communities.
Strengthening Partnerships
Dr. Al Dhaheri confirmed that the visit aligns with MBZUH’s mission to strengthen cultural, academic, and scientific ties with Ethiopia. The university aims to bolster partnerships with entities interested in promoting peace and national reconciliation within Ethiopia.
This initiative underscores MBZUH's commitment to fostering deeper connections with Ethiopian institutions dedicated to peacebuilding efforts. Through these collaborations, both parties hope to contribute significantly towards achieving lasting peace in the region.
The discussions during this visit reflect a shared vision for a peaceful future where tolerance and coexistence are paramount. By working together, these institutions aim to create a more harmonious society that respects diverse beliefs and cultures.
