Estonian Minister Highlights UAE Partnership As A Model For Agricultural Cooperation And Innovation

Estonia's Minister of Regional Affairs and Agriculture, Piret Hartman, emphasised the robust agricultural collaboration between Estonia and the UAE. She described it as a global success story. Hartman highlighted Estonia's active participation in significant UAE-hosted events as a key factor in this progress. Estonia has been part of Gulfood for seven years, showcasing its agricultural products in a shared pavilion.

The Estonian Minister noted that Estonian companies have been instrumental in forming partnerships and increasing trade. These efforts have also showcased innovative agricultural products. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is set to be signed in February 2024 between the UAE's Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Estonia's Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture, and the Ministry of Climate of Estonia. This MoU aims to enhance cooperation in food security, agricultural innovation, and water resources management.

UAE and Estonia: A Model for Agricultural Success

Hartman pointed out that these initiatives have led to a dynamic trade partnership based on shared values like innovation, sustainability, and food security. The growing demand for sustainable, high-quality food products in the GCC region offers promising opportunities for Estonian companies known for their innovation and commitment to these standards.

The Minister also mentioned that the increasing trade volumes and presence of Estonian brands underscore Estonia's status as a reliable partner for the UAE. She believes that their agricultural cooperation can significantly contribute to sustainable development goals and enhance regional food security.

Estonia supports multilateral cooperation through international organisations such as FAO, WFP, IFAD, and WHO to tackle global food insecurity challenges. Hartman sees potential for expanding collaboration with the UAE in areas like agritourism and marketing agricultural products.

Ongoing discussions reveal a mutual interest in exploring new opportunities between the two nations. Hartman expressed hope for establishing a regional model of sustainable agricultural cooperation with the UAE. She stressed using innovation to improve food security and build a lasting partnership.
