Esports World Cup: Level Up Documentary Series Offers Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Look

A major entertainment platform is set to stream a documentary series filmed in Riyadh, starting on the first day of Eid Al-Adha. This series captures the journey of the Esports World Cup, which Saudi Arabia hosted in the summer of 2024. The five-part series provides esports fans worldwide with an exclusive behind-the-scenes view of this significant event, showcasing Saudi Arabia's emergence as a global sports and entertainment hub.

The documentary, titled "Esports World Cup: Level Up," will be available on Amazon’s Prime Video. A new episode will be released every week. The series showcases key moments from the tournament's inaugural edition, which attracted over 500 million viewers globally. It featured 1,500 players from 200 clubs across more than 100 countries.

Participants competed in 21 games across 22 tournaments for a record-breaking prize pool of $60 million, the largest in esports history. "This series highlights the dedication, passion, and extraordinary determination of the players and teams as they give their all to reach the top — amid immense pressure and the pursuit of $60 million in prize money," said R.J. Cutler, the series director.

The series delves into compelling human stories of leading esports stars worldwide. Among them is Saudi champion Musaed Al-Dossary, who won the previous edition. Viewers will gain insight into these competitors' true nature and see their human side up close, according to Cutler.

Produced in a documentary style that blends real footage with on-the-ground coverage from Riyadh, this series was created in collaboration with the Esports World Cup Foundation. It was produced by This Machine, a Sony Pictures Television company. Jon Dorsey oversaw production with executive producers Jane Cha Cutler, Trevor Smith, Elise Pearlstein, and Marc Platt.

This documentary not only showcases thrilling competition but also highlights personal stories behind each player’s journey. By doing so, it offers an intimate look at what drives these athletes beyond just winning titles or earning prize money.
