Türkiye's President Erdoğan Advocates for Global Unity and Justice at WGS 2024

In a significant address at the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2024, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye called for global unity amidst escalating crises and conflicts. The session, which took place on the summit's second day, saw the attendance of prominent UAE leaders including His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. The gathering underscored the urgency of collaborative efforts to address global challenges.

Erdoğan emphasized Türkiye's commitment to fostering justice and peace in the region, highlighting the nation's proactive stance in navigating through successive crises. He specifically referenced the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and its timing following the COVID-19 pandemic, illustrating the compounded stresses on the global landscape. The Turkish President also brought attention to the longstanding Palestinian issue, advocating for an independent state within the 1967 borders to ensure peace, stability, and economic progress in the region.

The plight of Palestinian refugees was another focal point of Erdoğan's speech. He underscored the critical role of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in providing essential support to millions. The devastating impact of the Gaza war was detailed, with over 27,000 civilians killed and thousands more injured or displaced. Türkiye's humanitarian efforts in Gaza were highlighted, including substantial aid shipments and medical treatment for affected individuals.

Reflecting on domestic achievements, Erdoğan outlined Türkiye's significant growth across various sectors over two decades. Despite facing challenges such as heavy immigration and terrorism, as well as a catastrophic earthquake last year resulting in over 53,000 deaths, Türkiye has demonstrated resilience. The country's commitment to rebuilding and providing accommodation for affected citizens was noted, with a goal to deliver over 200,000 units by year-end.

The Turkish President expressed gratitude towards the UAE for its support in Türkiye's recovery efforts post-earthquake. He also acknowledged Türkiye's role as a haven for refugees, hosting millions from Syria and other countries. Erdoğan's call to action at the WGS 2024 serves as a reminder of the importance of international solidarity in addressing humanitarian crises and fostering global peace.
