EPAA To Highlight Sharjah's Environmental Achievements At IUCN World Conservation Congress In Abu Dhabi

The Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) in Sharjah is set to participate in the IUCN World Conservation Congress. This event will be held in Abu Dhabi from 9th to 13th October. Organised by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the congress serves as a crucial platform for tackling global environmental issues.

EPAA's pavilion will feature an interactive display showcasing Sharjah's achievements in environmental protection and wildlife conservation. Visitors can explore 13 nature reserves and educational centres. The pavilion will also host scientific workshops and research presentations aimed at fostering international collaboration in sustainability.

EPAA Showcases Environmental Efforts at IUCN Congress

A highlight of EPAA's exhibit is the Sharjah Strandings Response Programme, which has been instrumental in rescuing marine species. Additionally, the Breeding Centre for Endangered Arabian Wildlife will be featured. This centre is dedicated to conserving the Arabian leopard, a species facing severe endangerment.

The Arabian Leopard Conservation Initiative, overseen by EPAA, focuses on breeding leopards in captivity. The goal is to prepare them for reintroduction into their natural habitats. This initiative underscores EPAA's commitment to preserving endangered species.

EPAA's participation will also spotlight Sir Bu Nair Island Protected Area, a significant environmental landmark in the region. This island provides a crucial habitat for marine life, including coral reefs, aquatic turtles, and rare bird species.

In addition to the pavilion, EPAA plans to conduct scientific workshops and present research papers on vital environmental topics. These include ecosystem sustainability, habitat restoration, and endangered species protection. Such initiatives aim to promote knowledge exchange and bolster international conservation efforts.

The congress offers an opportunity for EPAA to share its conservation successes while engaging with global experts. By participating, EPAA aims to enhance collaborative efforts in addressing pressing environmental challenges worldwide.
