EPAA Launches Fourth Edition Of Clean Coasts Initiative To Promote Environmental Responsibility

The Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) in Sharjah has launched the fourth edition of the "Clean Coasts" initiative at Al Luluyah Beach, Khorfakkan. This event saw participation from government bodies, educational institutions, students, and community volunteers. The initiative aims to promote environmental responsibility and encourage collective volunteerism through activities that emphasise the importance of protecting coastal and marine environments.

Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of EPAA, highlighted that these initiatives align with their strategy to foster community partnerships and enhance environmental volunteerism. She noted that success relies on cooperation between institutions and the public to make a tangible impact on marine ecosystem protection. Al Suwaidi stated, "The ‘Clean Coasts’ initiative reflects our commitment to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in making environmental protection a humanitarian and social responsibility."

The event extended beyond beach cleaning to include a marine seabed cleanup led by professional divers. A beach cleanup campaign also involved officials, students, government entities, and volunteers working together to protect the coastline from pollutants. These efforts aim to promote the sustainability of marine ecosystems.

Al Suwaidi further added, "Khorfakkan, with its beautiful beaches and rich marine environment, stands as a living example of successful collaboration among various entities and institutions in protecting coastal ecosystems." She emphasised that this initiative seeks to strengthen community ties with their environment and encourage active involvement in its protection.

The event featured workshops for school students focusing on preserving ocean cleanliness. A student-led exhibition showcased innovative projects promoting environmental education. Participants also engaged with an interactive corner highlighting marine life's importance in maintaining ecological balance.

Al Suwaidi remarked on the broad participation from all societal segments as a clear message that environmental awareness begins individually but translates into collective action. She stressed that preserving coastlines is crucial for safeguarding natural resources for future generations.

This initiative underscores Sharjah’s commitment to sustainability and leadership in community-driven environmental action. By fostering a culture of conservation and volunteerism, it aims to create lasting impacts on both local communities and natural ecosystems.
