UAE: EPAA Raises Environmental Awareness Among Youth In New Initiative

The Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) in Sharjah recently wrapped up the second edition of the "My Green Environment Is My Future" initiative for the 2024-2025 cycle. The closing ceremony, held at Indaba Hall in Sharjah Safari, was attended by Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of EPAA, along with senior officials, partner institution representatives, school administrators, and winning students.

Al Suwaidi highlighted the initiative's role in raising environmental awareness among young people and embedding sustainability principles within educational settings. She noted that it has fostered a competitive atmosphere that motivates students to innovate and contribute to natural resource protection. This success underscores EPAA’s dedication to promoting environmental consciousness and sustainable development principles.

EPAA Concludes Environmental Initiative in Sharjah

The initiative aligns with Sharjah’s vision of balancing economic growth with environmental preservation. Al Suwaidi praised schools' involvement, stating that this edition showed an increased level of environmental awareness within the community. Students presented innovative projects supporting sustainable development, reflecting Sharjah’s strategic vision under H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi's leadership.

Al Suwaidi expressed her satisfaction with the initiative’s achievements and the strong partnership between EPAA and educational institutions. She commended the initiative for encouraging community engagement in environmental issues and preparing future generations to become sustainability leaders. She congratulated all winners and participants, appreciating those who contributed to its success.

A documentary video showcased key achievements, student-led projects, and contributions from participating schools in environmental innovation, resource conservation, and climate change awareness. EPAA honoured key governmental and educational institutions for their support in implementing activities that contributed to the initiative’s success.

These included the Ministry of Education, Sharjah Private Education Authority, and Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai. Their collaboration significantly fostered environmental awareness and sustainability practices within schools.

Acknowledging Winning Schools

Winning schools across various categories were celebrated for their outstanding projects. In the Kindergarten Category, ASPAM Indian International School secured first place. In Primary Education (Cycle 1), Zayed Education Complex won first place, followed by Jewairyah Bent Al Hareth School in second place, and Atekah Bint Zaid School in third.

In Primary Education (Cycle 2), GEMS Our Own English High School took first place, with Ibn Seena English High School in second place, and Al Sedra Private School in third. In Secondary Education Category, Al Shola Private School claimed first place, followed by Al Bridi Girls School in second place, and Al Hikmah Private School in third.

Each winning school demonstrated creativity and dedication by developing impactful projects promoting sustainability. These efforts encourage responsible practices and inspire students to actively protect the planet. Their contributions reflect a growing commitment to environmental stewardship while reinforcing the importance of integrating sustainability into education.
