EPAA Concludes Its Mountain Awareness Campaign To Promote Environmental Preservation In Sharjah

The Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) in Sharjah concluded its Mountain Awareness Campaign, marking the end of a decade-long initiative. Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of EPAA, attended the closing ceremony at Khorfakkan Cultural Center. The campaign, under the slogan "Let It Dignitary and Sustainable," was executed through EPAA's branches in Khorfakkan and Kalba over ten years.

Al Suwaidi highlighted that the campaign aligns with EPAA’s strategic goals to support environmental programmes. It builds on previous successes and follows directives from H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, who strongly supports environmental preservation efforts. The initiative aims to foster a culture of volunteerism and social responsibility among individuals and organisations.

EPAA Ends Mountain Awareness Campaign in Sharjah

The campaign focused on raising awareness about preserving mountain areas in Sharjah, which are significant for their geographical, historical, natural, and touristic value. Executive Council Resolution No. (11) of 2014 prohibits defacing these areas. Al Suwaidi noted the campaign's success in educating community members, including government employees and students, about conserving natural resources.

Awatif Al Naqbi, Manager of EPAA's Khorfakkan Branch, praised the enthusiastic participation in the initiative. She expressed gratitude to contributors and partners for their support. Al Naqbi emphasised the positive impact of the campaign on enhancing EPAA’s programmes and initiatives.

The public responded positively to the campaign activities, appreciating EPAA’s efforts in environmental conservation. The initiative significantly boosted environmental awareness among participants. A film showcasing achievements from past editions was presented during the ceremony alongside an educational theatrical performance by Atika Bint Zaid School students.

The event featured various side activities such as a photo exhibition highlighting mountains in the Eastern Region. There was also a section dedicated to documenting environmental events conducted by participating schools. Participants and collaborators were honoured at the conclusion of the event.

Broader Environmental Initiatives

Besides this campaign, EPAA organises annual awareness campaigns for other ecosystems in Sharjah. These include the Desert Environment Awareness Campaign and Marine and Coastal Environment Awareness Campaign featuring events like Sir Bu Nair Environmental Heritage Festival.

This comprehensive approach ensures ongoing education about different ecosystems while promoting biodiversity conservation across Sharjah’s diverse landscapes.
