Environment Ministry Adopts 40 Innovative Technologies To Enhance Water Treatment And Reuse Efforts

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Saudi Arabia has integrated 40 new technologies for water treatment and reuse. These include algae-based treatment, nanobubbles, zero liquid discharge, pyrolysis, and AI-assisted methods. This decision was made after reviewing over 10,000 sources globally and locally, such as scientific papers, patents, reports, and news articles. The ministry also monitored more than 100 million data points.

The adoption of these technologies aligns with the findings from the first national report on innovation trends in the water sector. This report was created to meet the Kingdom's specific needs. It follows the OECD's 2024 framework for monitoring emerging technologies systematically. The methodology used combines artificial intelligence with expert analysis to ensure comprehensive insights.

Innovative Technologies for Water Treatment Adopted

The report examined around 27,000 signals related to wastewater treatment and reuse. It also evaluated technical indicators and investment feasibility in detail. Wastewater treatment is a significant focus under Saudi Arabia's national priority of "Environmental Sustainability and Basic Needs." This is part of the country's research, development, and innovation priorities.

The report serves as a strategic guide for policymakers, sector leaders, investors, and entrepreneurs by outlining major innovation trends and investment opportunities in emerging technologies. It includes insights from NEOM’s energy and water company ENOWA. These insights highlight the crucial role of national companies while providing practical perspectives linked to market realities.
