Arab Environment Ministers' Meeting Addresses Climate Change And Environmental Security Challenges
Eng. Mansour Almushaiti, Vice Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, led a key meeting of environment ministers at the Arab League. This gathering focused on the region's pressing environmental issues. The meeting coincided with the seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7), held from December 8 to 12 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The discussions at the meeting centred on critical topics such as drought, desertification, land degradation, and climate change impacts on natural resources and environmental security. Almushaiti highlighted the necessity for enhanced joint Arab efforts to tackle these challenges effectively.

During UNEA-7, Almushaiti engaged in several bilateral meetings aimed at boosting international cooperation for global environmental protection. He met with Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), to discuss strengthening collaboration between Saudi Arabia's ministry and UNEP.
The focus of Almushaiti's talks with UNEP was on sustainability and climate adaptation initiatives. They also discussed supporting UN programs through effective national efforts. These discussions are part of Saudi Arabia's broader commitment to advancing regional and international environmental action.
Almushaiti also met with Oman's Environment Authority president to explore bilateral cooperation in the environmental sector. Their discussions included developing joint programs for managing natural resources, monitoring the environment, and protecting biodiversity between Saudi Arabia and Oman.
Saudi Arabia's Commitment
The vice minister expressed Saudi Arabia's support for Oman's leadership during the seventh UNEA session. He reiterated the Kingdom's dedication to addressing regional and global environmental challenges like drought and desertification.
Saudi Arabia aims to establish an effective framework to combat these issues while fulfilling its environmental commitments. The Kingdom is committed to playing a leadership role in tackling these challenges through collaborative efforts with other nations.
