Environment Agency Abu Dhabi Hosts Workshop On Artificial Intelligence In Waste Management Strategies
The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) recently hosted a workshop titled ‘The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Waste Management’. This event aligns with the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031 and EAD’s Waste Management Strategy. The workshop underscored the emirate's dedication to sustainability and adopting advanced technologies to enhance resource management efficiency, aiming for global environmental best practices in waste management.
Salem Al Braik, Director of Waste Management at EAD, opened the workshop by highlighting artificial intelligence as crucial for Abu Dhabi's environmental sustainability vision. This event is part of a series aimed at creating a data-driven, innovative waste management system. The workshop attracted participation from government bodies, academic institutions, and experts in AI and business continuity.

The workshop emphasised AI's role in transitioning to smart waste management systems. It focused on improving operational efficiency, developing tools for monitoring waste, and reducing violations like illegal dumping. These efforts ensure business continuity and sustainable resource management. Participants engaged in discussions about translating innovative ideas into practical solutions.
Key presentations covered advanced topics such as using Digital Twin technology to simulate processes and improve waste management efficiency. Remote sensing and satellite imagery were discussed for identifying illegal dumping sites and monitoring violations. Additionally, smart data management platforms were highlighted for enhancing transparency and compliance.
Participants explored global experiences in waste management, discussing their feasibility for local adaptation within Abu Dhabi’s context and future goals.
