ENOC And Masdar Highlight Innovative Clean Energy Projects At WETEX 2025 Exhibition

The Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) concluded at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Officials highlighted its role as a platform for showcasing clean energy projects and sustainability initiatives. Hussain Sultan Lootah, Acting CEO of ENOC Group, emphasised the event's importance in learning about energy sector advancements and engaging with international renewable energy companies.

ENOC Group showcased its biodiesel production plant in the UAE, marking a first among national oil companies. This project aligns with the National Biofuel Policy launched in 2024. The plant is set to begin operations in late 2025, producing 20 million litres of B5 fuel annually. It aims to serve both government and private clients, with plans to expand to B7 and eventually B20 fuels.

ENOC and Masdar at WETEX 2025

Husain Al Meer, Director of Global Offshore Wind & UK at Masdar, shared insights on their renewable energy projects during WETEX 2025. Since its inception in 2006, Masdar has focused on local and international renewable ventures. A key highlight was the sixth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which will generate 1,800 megawatts using photovoltaic panels.

This solar park will provide power to over half a million homes while reducing carbon emissions by 2.36 million tonnes annually. Masdar also presented projects in Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia and discussed future plans for expanding renewable energy initiatives globally.

ENOC's overseas growth is driven by Horizon, its fuel storage subsidiary operating in markets like Singapore, Tangier in Morocco, and Djibouti. This reflects ENOC's strategy to diversify and scale international operations. Lootah noted that ENOC is prioritising artificial intelligence technologies to enhance performance through partnerships with leading firms.

Masdar has significantly expanded its offshore wind portfolio through major investments and strategic agreements. Notably, it achieved financial closure on a €5.2 billion investment with Iberdrola for the 'East Anglia Three' project in the UK. This project will deliver 1.4 gigawatts of clean electricity by late 2026.

Future Plans

The 'Dogger Bank South' project with RWE is advancing with a combined capacity of 3 gigawatts after completing official examinations. Masdar is also expanding its partnership with Iberdrola to invest up to €15 billion in offshore wind and green hydrogen projects across the UK, Germany, and the US.

This includes completing Germany's Baltic Eagle project with a capacity of 476 megawatts, enriching Masdar’s clean energy portfolio further. Al Meer highlighted that Masdar's focus on offshore wind has been bolstered by these strategic investments.

Lootah stated that ENOC aims to ensure round-the-clock fuel availability through its stations while expanding biodiesel production for factories and construction firms. The group seeks to solidify its position as a primary jet fuel supplier at UAE and international airports.

ENOC also addresses factories' needs for environmentally friendly fuels while enhancing awareness about clean energy use. The group leverages Emirati youth expertise for innovation and development alongside cybersecurity coordination.
