Endowment And Society Conference Concludes In Abu Dhabi With Focus On Sustainable Development
The Endowment & Society Conference wrapped up its two-day event in Abu Dhabi, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Organised by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, the conference took place at Erth Hotel. It aimed to foster collaboration and sustainable development within the UAE community.
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, highlighted that the conference's theme aligns with the ‘Year of the Community’. He stated, "Under the guidance of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, we seek to mobilise all efforts and resources while fostering collaboration between individuals and societal institutions to cultivate a national environment that drives sustainable development, promotes responsibility, and advances the nation's progress."

Addressing attendees, Sheikh Nahyan emphasised unity and cooperation. He noted that their presence reflects President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's vision for unity among individuals and institutions. This vision aims to achieve productive collaboration across various sectors in the nation.
Sheikh Nahyan also mentioned a significant initiative by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The 'Father's Endowment' initiative honours parents through Islamic teachings. This initiative aligns with the conference's theme, promoting noble values within society.
The UAE stands as an example in endowments and charitable work. Sheikh Nahyan attributed this to principles established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. These principles reflect President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s vision for active societal roles in national progress.
Shaikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, Chairman of the UAE Council for Fatwa, spoke on endowments' significance. He said they embody Islamic Sharia wisdom by fostering cooperation and aiding those in need. Endowments serve as reserves for future generations while providing ongoing charity benefits to donors.
Sustainable Benefits of Endowments
Endowments are characterised by their enduring nature. Shaikh Abdullah explained that they ensure continuous allocation of proceeds to charitable causes designated by donors. A comprehensive framework governs endowments to safeguard their purpose and beneficiaries’ well-being.
Dr. Omar Habtoor Al Darei, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, reiterated endowments' role as a societal lifeline. They fulfil needs regardless of religious affiliation, reflecting a commitment to giving and community support.
Exhibition Showcasing Endowment History
Sheikh Nahyan toured an exhibition accompanying the conference. It showcased UAE’s endowment history through galleries and digital platforms. The exhibition detailed its development stages and laws regulating endowments over time.
The conference saw participation from notable figures like Shaikh Abdullah bin Bayyah; Dr. Omar Habtoor Al-Darei; Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al Neyadi; along with scholars invited by His Highness the UAE President.
