EMSTEEL Launches TrueGreen To Enhance Sustainable Construction Practices In The UAE
EMSTEEL Group, a major player in the steel and building materials sector, has introduced TrueGreen™, a new sustainability identity. This initiative consolidates its ongoing decarbonisation efforts, setting benchmarks for transparency in sustainable steel production. The launch comes after significant achievements, such as being the first in MENA to receive ResponsibleSteel™ certification and initiating the world's first electric process gas heaters pilot in steelmaking.
EMSTEEL's history of industrial decarbonisation includes pioneering projects like the CCUS Project with ADNOC’s Al Reyadah and launching a hydrogen-based steelmaking pilot with Masdar. These initiatives have led to tangible results, such as Aldar using EMSTEEL’s low-carbon rebar for Abu Dhabi’s first net-zero carbon mosque on Yas Island. This project highlights the UAE's commitment to innovation and sustainability.

TrueGreen™ provides developers, contractors, and financiers with globally recognised sustainability credentials. These credentials help meet emissions targets, enhance bids in sustainability-focused tenders, and comply with international regulations like the European Union Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). Each TrueGreen™ product comes with independently verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and advanced digital monitoring systems for precise carbon data.
"TrueGreen™ is a declaration of our unwavering commitment to sustainable steel, built on decades of innovation and delivered as a transparent, verifiable advantage for our customers," stated Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi. "This is a pivotal moment for EMSTEEL, as we empower our partners with the data they need to strengthen their competitiveness and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy."
Aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 strategy, TrueGreen™ supports NDC 3.0's goal of reducing built environment emissions by 79% by 2035. With an emission intensity of just 0.67 tonnes of CO₂ per tonne of steel—well below global averages—EMSTEEL positions the UAE at the forefront of industrial decarbonisation efforts.
Global Recognition
EMSTEEL's leadership in sustainability has gained international recognition. The company has been named a Steel Sustainability Champion and ranks among the top five global steelmakers for decarbonisation. Additionally, it serves as Co-Chair of the Alliance for Industry Decarbonisation under IRENA's leadership.
Through TrueGreen™, EMSTEEL aims to expand its influence by collaborating with entities like MOIAT, Emirates Green Building Council, and international certification bodies. These partnerships will help shape future low-carbon construction practices.
