Empowering Teachers: A Symposium On Building Sustainable Societies Amid Global Challenges
A symposium by TRENDS Research & Advisory, in partnership with the UNESCO Regional Center for Educational Planning (RCEP), underscored the crucial role of teachers in shaping future generations. Held on World Teachers' Day, the event focused on empowering educators to build sustainable societies amid global challenges and rapid changes. It brought together renowned educators and researchers to discuss collaboration among stakeholders to support teachers.
The symposium stressed the need for coordinated efforts in the education sector. Recommendations included investing in sustainable professional development for teachers, creating supportive work environments, and integrating technology into education. These measures aim to enhance teaching quality and adapt to modern advancements.

Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS Research & Advisory, highlighted that teachers are more than knowledge transmitters; they shape students' personalities and future generations. He emphasised empowering teachers by providing supportive environments to keep pace with technological and educational progress. Dr. Al-Ali stated that teachers are fundamental to any successful educational system.
Dr. Al-Ali also noted the symposium's timing with a significant UAE event: President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced Emirati Day for Education on 28th February annually. This highlights education's importance in the UAE's development and reflects leadership's belief in its role in nation-building.
The UAE demonstrates its commitment to improving teaching conditions through initiatives like the "Mohamed bin Zayed Award for Best Teacher." This award exemplifies leadership's dedication to empowering and motivating educators in their roles within society.
Mahra Hilal Al-Mutaiwie, Director of RCEP, stated, "At the RCEP, we believe that the teacher is the cornerstone of any successful educational system. Teachers are the driving force behind societal progress and the shapers of the future. They are leaders of change and future makers, which is why they form a strategic focus of the RCEP's work."
