Emirati Women Excel And Innovate In Space Sector, According To Nora AlMatrooshi

Nora AlMatrooshi, the first Emirati and Arab woman astronaut, highlighted the significant role of Emirati women in the UAE's rapidly advancing space sector. She noted their active involvement and influence, particularly in major projects like the Hope Probe mission, where women made up half of the engineering team. AlMatrooshi shared these insights with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) during the Global Women's Forum Dubai.

AlMatrooshi emphasised that Emirati women have access to all resources necessary for excellence and creativity. This is largely due to the support from the UAE's leadership, which actively empowers women across various fields. She acknowledged that numerous programmes and initiatives have opened doors for women in advanced sectors such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Nora AlMatrooshi on Emirati Women s Role in Space

She pointed out that while challenges exist globally for women in space-related fields, the UAE sets a positive example by eliminating barriers for Emirati women. Women in the UAE are entering all necessary disciplines within the space sector, from engineering to computer science. AlMatrooshi stated that this progress is supported by collaborations between entities like Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre and universities worldwide.

"Women in the UAE enjoy all means of excellence and creativity, thanks to the support of the wise leadership, which seeks to empower women in all fields," she said. This statement reflects how governmental backing has been pivotal in fostering an environment where women can thrive in STEM areas.

AlMatrooshi also mentioned that while challenges persist globally for women entering STEM fields, there are no significant obstacles for Emirati women within this sector or others. The UAE's approach serves as a model for other nations aiming to integrate more women into technical disciplines.

The cooperation between various organisations is crucial for promoting knowledge sharing and expertise development. AlMatrooshi believes these partnerships are vital starting points for advancing space exploration efforts further.

The achievements of Emirati women in space reflect broader societal changes within the UAE. With ongoing support from leadership and strategic initiatives, they continue to break new ground in traditionally male-dominated fields.
