UAE Establishes Itself As A Global Leader In Cybersecurity And Advanced Technology Partnerships

At the "Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit 2025," international specialists recognised the UAE as a pivotal centre for cybersecurity and advanced technology alliances. They attributed this to the nation's sophisticated digital and regulatory frameworks, along with its strategic location, which serves as a springboard for global business growth.

Participants at the summit, held in Abu Dhabi on 5–6 May, emphasised its importance as a platform for in-depth discussions and potential collaborations. The event was noted for enhancing public-private partnerships, sharing knowledge, and tackling increasing cybersecurity issues while fostering more inclusive and sustainable tech ecosystems.

Ned Farhat, Founder and Director of CyberSage, an Australian digital forensics and cybersecurity consultancy, highlighted the UAE's geographic and economic advantages. He stated these make it an ideal leader in global efforts against financial crimes and cyber threats. Farhat disclosed that his company is negotiating with Emirati organisations to establish a local office offering specialised digital investigation services and AI-driven cybersecurity systems.

Farhat also stressed the summit's significance in facilitating discussions on cross-border financial crimes. He underscored the necessity of international cooperation to address complex cyber threats effectively.

Tim Theuri, Executive Head of Cybersecurity at M-PESA Africa, described the summit as crucial for sharing knowledge in fintech and data protection. He highlighted the importance of applying lessons from the summit to enhance data security for customers and partners across Africa.

M-PESA, a major digital financial service provider with over 61 million subscribers in 11 countries, aims to advance financial inclusion through innovation. Theuri pointed out that the UAE's experience in cybersecurity legislation provides a model worth emulating. He noted that cybersecurity is vital for sustainable growth amid modern tech risks and increased data dependency.

Post-Quantum Cryptography

Janne Hirvimies, Chief Technology Officer at QuantumGate, noted that the UAE is among the first nations alongside the US to create regulatory frameworks for post-quantum cryptography (PQC). This underscores its leadership in advanced encryption technologies.

Hirvimies mentioned that QuantumGate collaborates with Abu Dhabi's Technology Innovation Institute to develop data security solutions. He emphasised raising institutional awareness about post-quantum risks and establishing strong frameworks for managing encrypted assets.

QuantumGate has created pioneering technology enabling organisations to map and manage their encryption assets efficiently. Other solutions focus on secure communications and data protection tailored to post-quantum era cybersecurity needs.

The summit highlighted how the UAE's strategic initiatives position it as a leader in addressing emerging technological challenges globally. By fostering collaboration across sectors, it continues to build robust frameworks essential for future technological advancements.
