EPA Highlights Emirati Children's Publishing At Bologna 2024 Fair

The Emirates Publishers Association (EPA) is set to make a significant appearance at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair (BCBF) 2024, scheduled from 8th to 11th April in Bologna, Italy. This event is globally recognized for its focus on children’s publishing and its role in fostering cultural and cognitive growth through the introduction of new projects and initiatives. The EPA's participation is a strategic move, championed by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, the Founder and Honorary President of the EPA, aimed at propelling the UAE's publishing industry onto international stages.

Dr. Abdullah Al Sharhan, a member of the EPA Board, emphasized the fair's significance as a vital platform for Emirati publishers. He noted that the BCBF offers a unique opportunity for showcasing Emirati and Arab publishing experiences and for forging valuable international collaborations, particularly in exchanging translation rights. This not only aids in disseminating Emirati culture globally but also helps in broadening the reach of Arab creative outputs.

At its pavilion, the EPA will display the latest publications from its members, covering a wide array of books along with publishers’ contact information. This initiative aims to simplify the process of communication between fair attendees and Emirati publishing houses, thereby facilitating remote transactions for book rights. Such efforts are crucial in supporting and promoting growth within the children’s book sector in both the Emirates and the wider Arab region.

Dr Fatima Binomar, Director of Al Masar Publication, lauded the EPA's pivotal role in advocating for local publishers at global cultural events. She underscored the value of participating in the BCBF as an unparalleled opportunity for her publishing house to explore international creative and literary trends, especially in children’s literature. This participation aligns with Al Masar’s commitment to enhancing the quality and content of its publications, aiming to inspire a love for reading among future generations.

The EPA's involvement in the Bologna Children’s Book Fair underscores its dedication to nurturing the publishing ecosystem within the UAE and beyond. By presenting Emirati publications to a global audience, the association not only showcases the rich literary culture of the Emirates but also opens doors for international collaborations that could further elevate the Arab literary scene on the world stage.
