EmiratesGBC Unveils New Sustainability Lounge To Enhance Green Building Practices

The Emirates Green Building Council (EGBC) has introduced the Sustainability Lounge, a co-working area aimed at promoting sustainable building practices. This space was inaugurated by Cristina Gamboa, CEO of the World Green Building Council, and Khaled Bushnaq, Chairman of EmiratesGBC. They highlighted their innovative sustainability strategies during the launch.

Located within the EmiratesGBC office, this collaborative hub is designed to encourage education and innovation among professionals focused on sustainable building. The Lounge serves as a central meeting point for members to network and advance sustainable solutions in the built environment.

EmiratesGBC Launches New Sustainability Lounge

The Lounge includes a Wall of Fame and a Nourishment Space. Members can showcase their sustainability products and projects on the Wall of Fame. This platform facilitates sharing innovations and promoting sustainable practices within the community.

Constructed with responsibly sourced materials, the Lounge offers a comfortable space dedicated to collaboration and innovation in sustainable building practices. Sustainable features include ultra-low VOC decorative paint with anti-mould properties and ultra-low iron content glass for natural illumination.

Khaled Bushnaq stated, "Emirates Green Building Council’s commitment to driving change to ensure a greener, more resilient built environment for the future of the planet and its people finds a new avenue through the Sustainability Lounge. Thoughtfully designed for optimum performance, the fully sustainable site aims to be a landmark networking space to further the Emirates Green Building Council’s green agenda. We invite all innovative creatives to collaborate to push the boundaries on sustainability for the greater good of our community."

Cristina Gamboa remarked, "As the largest leading global action network catalysing sustainability in the built environment, the World Green Building Council is proud to be at the opening of the Sustainability Lounge within EmiratesGBC. We have for long been championing the cause of sustainable buildings as a climate solution and EmiratesGBC’s latest venture is further proof that a collaborative approach is best to accelerate climate action and boost energy efficiency in the built environment."

Sustainable Materials and Practices

The flooring features Re-Use series porcelain tiles made from 100% pre-consumer recycled materials. Furniture is crafted from recycled plastic sourced from post-industrial waste, while products use eco-friendly Palm Strand Boards (PSB).

The Green Walls incorporate an innovative fabric pocket structure allowing plants to absorb air and return excess water to circulation tanks. Wood materials are formaldehyde-free boards from upcycled palm waste, locally made in UAE, reducing carbon emissions linked with transportation.

The curtains are crafted from industrial hemp, known as one of the most sustainable fibres globally.

This initiative by EGBC underscores its dedication to fostering excellence in sustainability within construction practices. The Sustainability Lounge stands as a testament to their commitment towards creating greener environments through collaboration.
