EmiratesGBC And Global Green Growth Institute Partner To Promote Sustainable Urban Development In The UAE

The Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) have joined forces to advance sustainable urban development in the UAE. This collaboration, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), focuses on promoting climate-resilient and inclusive green growth. The partnership aims to enhance urban sustainability initiatives and accelerate the UAE's progress towards its Net Zero by 2050 commitments.

By combining their expertise, EmiratesGBC and GGGI aim to address challenges in improving the built environment. They will focus on implementing green projects and providing thought leadership. The agreement seeks to drive the UAE's readiness for net-zero emissions by developing innovative solutions for sustainable infrastructure and climate-resilient cities.

EmiratesGBC and GGGI Join Forces for Sustainability

The MoU was signed by Khaled Bushnaq, Chairman of EmiratesGBC, with CEO Abdullatif Albitawi present. Mahamadou Tounkara, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Region at GGGI, also attended. Representatives from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) were present, highlighting the partnership's significance for national sustainability goals.

Khaled Bushnaq expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating that it marks a significant step in achieving sustainable urban development. He emphasised that reaching the UAE's Net Zero by 2050 target requires collective efforts from all sectors. Partnering with GGGI allows leveraging global expertise to promote green building practices and transition towards a net-zero built environment.

Mahamadou Tounkara highlighted the UAE's leadership in sustainable development. He stated, "The UAE has demonstrated strong leadership in the pursuit of sustainable development, and GGGI is proud to support these efforts and advance the nation’s ambitious Net Zero by 2050 goals through our partnership with EmiratesGBC."

Workshops and Training Programmes

The partnership will include various activities such as capacity-building workshops and training programmes. These initiatives aim to enhance skills and knowledge among professionals in the built environment sector. Additionally, knowledge-sharing platforms will facilitate dialogue among stakeholders across different sectors.

Pilot projects will be conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of green building solutions.
