Emirates SkyCargo Expands Cargo Capacity By 15% To Meet Global Demand In 2025
In 2024, Emirates SkyCargo experienced a significant rise in demand for its specialised product range and global network. This growth prompted the airline to lease two additional Boeing 747 freighters. Starting in 2025, this move will increase their main deck cargo capacity by 15% compared to January 2024, addressing the rising global demand.
The leasing agreement for the Boeing 747s was made with Compass Group, a trusted partner of Emirates SkyCargo. This investment allows the airline to immediately meet customer needs while exploring further collaboration opportunities. The strategy complements their owned fleet, which expanded with two new Boeing 777Fs in 2024.

Emirates SkyCargo's fleet now includes ten Boeing 777Fs and six wet-leased Boeing 747s, totalling sixteen aircraft. Additionally, thirteen more Boeing 777Fs are on order, expected between 2025 and 2026. These additions will support future growth as the airline considers options like the Boeing 777-8F and Airbus A350-1000F.
Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, stated, "Throughout 2024, we made significant investments in new and leased freighter aircraft to address the evolving supply chain and air cargo demands around the world to ensure we had a stable supply of capacity to best serve our global customers." He emphasised that enhancing cargo capabilities is crucial for supporting Dubai’s Economic Agenda.
The airline's strategic investments have enabled it to expand its freighter network to cover thirty-eight destinations. This includes a weekly service to Copenhagen, Denmark. The focus has been on meeting the growing eCommerce demand from Asian markets. The recent addition of passenger flights to cities like Madagascar via Seychelles and Uganda also boosts freight capacity.
Emirates SkyCargo leverages its widebody fleet and frequent passenger flights for efficient goods transport. Recent increases in passenger services to key locations such as Johannesburg and Melbourne enhance their freight division's ability to move goods globally.
Enhancing Cargo Capabilities
The introduction of the first A350 this month further enhances bellyhold capacity by offering twelve tonnes per flight. This addition supports Emirates SkyCargo's mission to maintain reliable and efficient goods movement worldwide.
The airline remains committed to expanding its capabilities in line with Dubai’s status as a major logistics hub. By investing in both leased and owned aircraft, Emirates SkyCargo is well-positioned for continued growth and success in the global air cargo market.
