Emirates Red Crescent Inaugurates Health Projects To Enhance Care In Comoros

Under the guidance of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, several health projects were launched in the Union of the Comoros. These initiatives, part of the Sheikha Fatima Refugee Women’s Fund, include a maternity and childhood hospital and a kidney dialysis centre on Anjouan Island. The projects aim to enhance healthcare services for the local population.

The Sheikha Fatima "Mother of the Nation" Maternity and Childhood Hospital has a 20-bed capacity and serves approximately 10,000 people each year. It features various essential facilities such as wards, intensive care units, natural childbirth and surgical operation rooms, anesthesia and sterilisation units, neonatal intensive care units, administrative offices, and rest areas for medical staff.

Health Projects Launched by Emirates Red Crescent

The Kidney Dialysis Centre is a pioneering facility on Anjouan Island. It includes eight advanced dialysis units with a specialised water treatment unit to ensure service quality and safety using modern technologies. The centre offers comprehensive patient support, continuous medical follow-up, regular clinical assessments, and conducts about 5,000 dialysis sessions annually.

The inauguration ceremonies were attended by President Azali Assoumani of the Union of the Comoros, Dr. Maitha Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State, Juma Rashid Al Rumaithi, UAE Ambassador to the Union of the Comoros, Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei, Secretary-General of the ERC, along with other officials from both sides. Their presence underscored the importance of these projects in enhancing healthcare infrastructure.

President Azali Assoumani expressed his gratitude to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his support towards Comoros. He acknowledged UAE's role as a key partner in Comoros’ development journey. He highlighted that these projects significantly contribute to achieving sustainable development goals and improving life quality for Comorian citizens.

Dr. Maitha Al Shamsi emphasised that this initiative reflects Sheikha Fatima’s dedication to addressing developmental and humanitarian needs in Comoros. Her efforts align with the UAE’s strategy of sustainable giving through ambitious development programmes that strengthen infrastructure and provide essential services to allied nations.

She stated: "Our presence among you today is a strong message of solidarity from the people of the United Arab Emirates with the humanitarian and developmental conditions in the Union of the Comoros." This statement highlights UAE's commitment to supporting communities in need.
