Over 10,000 Gather In Dubai For 'Emirates Loves Pakistan' Independence Event
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, attended a grand celebration marking Pakistan's 77th independence anniversary. The event, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, saw over 10,000 attendees. Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Ambassador of Pakistan to the UAE, along with other dignitaries and diplomats, were also present.
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan highlighted the strong ties between the UAE and Pakistan. He emphasised their commitment to nurturing and strengthening these relations. "Our cultural, political, commercial, and people-to-people linkages are deeply rooted in shared values and beliefs," he said. "We also have hope and strong resolve for achieving progress and peace in all corners of the world."
The event showcased Pakistan's rich cultural diversity through various performances. Traditional music and dance were featured alongside exhibitions of Pakistani handicrafts. The program also celebrated the contributions of the Pakistani community to the UAE's development.
In a special ceremony, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan honoured several distinguished Pakistani individuals for their significant contributions across various fields. Dr. Faisel Ikram, President of the Pakistan Association Dubai, was recognised for establishing the largest community centre for overseas Pakistanis.
Other notable honorees included Dr. Yarjan Abdul Samad from Khalifa University and The University of Cambridge. His research focuses on developing graphene-based technologies for space and aerospace applications. Chef Chaudary Abdul Hameed was acknowledged for his impact on Dubai's culinary scene through Ravi Restaurant.
Strategic Partnerships
The UAE has been a major supporter of development in Pakistan since its establishment in 1971 by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. This partnership includes significant investments, with the UAE recently committing US$10 billion to promising sectors in Pakistan.
Mudassir Sheikha, co-founder of Careem, received accolades for revolutionising the transportation sector in the region. Yahya Jan was honored for his architectural contributions, including designing "Ciel tower," set to be the tallest hotel globally.
Athletes Recognised
The celebration also honoured prominent Pakistani athletes like Naila Kiani and Shahid Afridi. Kiani is notable as the first Pakistani woman to climb 11 of the 14 highest peaks above 8,000 metres. Afridi was recognised for his record-breaking achievements in cricket and charitable work.
Squash champion Jahangir Khan and hockey star Shahbaz Ahmed were also acknowledged for their outstanding sports careers.
Alia Al Hammadi from the UAE Government Media Office noted that this celebration reflects deep-rooted historical relations between both nations. She highlighted that cooperation spans various fields and that the UAE supports sustainable development in Pakistan through major projects.
"On this special occasion of your country’s 77th Day of Independence," Sheikh Nahyan added, "we in the UAE are proud to join the people of Pakistan in offering hope and optimism for our countries' future." He expressed pride in working with Pakistani brothers and sisters to achieve regional progress.
