Emirates Health Services Enhances Patient Care With Over 5,000 Books During National Reading Month
The Emirates Health Services (EHS) is working with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library through the "A World Reads" initiative to enhance its library collections. Over 5,000 books in Arabic and English are being added across various subjects. This effort aligns with National Reading Month and EHS's vision to establish libraries in hospital wards, promoting cultural awareness within therapeutic settings.
Dr. Noor Almheiri, Director of the Mental Health Department at EHS, highlighted the importance of culture and knowledge in improving life quality. She noted that providing books in hospitals supports mental health by offering patients a connection to the outside world and opportunities for skill development, aiding their treatment and rehabilitation.

Ali Juma Al Tamimi from the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library emphasized their commitment to fostering a reading culture among all societal groups, particularly youth. He stated that reading shapes minds, encourages creativity, and strengthens national responsibility. The library's initiatives aim to empower society by providing diverse knowledge resources.
The initiative involves distributing books to various EHS facilities and setting up libraries in hospital wards. This contributes to educational and therapeutic programmes, offering patients and companions access to knowledge and psychological support during treatment.
This collaboration supports EHS’s strategy of partnering with local entities for national cultural initiatives. It aligns with National Reading Month "UAE Reads 2025" and the UAE Centennial 2071 Vision, which aims to build an advanced, knowledge-based society.
During an event at Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital, EHS received over 5,000 books from the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library. Attendees included Dr. Ammar Albanna, Director of Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital, Ali Juma Al Tamimi from the library, and other representatives.
Empowering Society Through Knowledge
The "A World Reads" initiative promotes lifelong learning by providing access to diverse sources of knowledge. It supports community development and advances all societal components by encouraging reading habits among students and adults as part of national efforts like the National Literacy Strategy.
The initiative's goal is to spread a reading culture and enhance knowledge across all segments of society, including patients in EHS facilities. By establishing libraries in hospital wards, it reflects EHS's commitment to promoting intellectual awareness within its therapeutic environment.
