Emirates Health Services Launches Comprehensive Plan To Combat Seasonal Influenza In The UAE
Emirates Health Services (EHS) is actively participating in a national campaign to increase awareness about seasonal influenza. This initiative, launched by the Ministry of Health and Prevention, carries the slogan "Immunise Yourself, Protect Your Community." EHS collaborates with other health authorities to implement an approved plan aimed at educating the public on vaccination's role in preventing influenza and training healthcare providers on best practices.
Dr. Shamsa Lootah, Director of the Public Health Department at EHS, highlighted their proactive approach to combating seasonal influenza. Efforts are focused on improving healthcare staff readiness and increasing public awareness about vaccination's importance. These measures aim to enhance prevention rates and minimise disease complications and spread. Dr. Lootah explained that seasonal influenza is a viral infection affecting the respiratory system, spreading quickly among all age groups.

EHS is committed to ensuring widespread access to the influenza vaccine across its healthcare facilities. The vaccine is offered free of charge to UAE nationals and vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, children under five, individuals with chronic illnesses, People of Determination, and those over 50 years old. This initiative aims to boost vaccination coverage and protect communities from influenza-related complications.
To support its objectives, EHS disseminates campaign messages through social media platforms, digital outlets, and various media channels. Additionally, workshops and awareness lectures are organised for employees in both public and private sectors, as well as for students in schools and universities. These efforts align with UAE's national strategies for managing seasonal diseases like influenza.
Dr. Lootah emphasised that receiving an annual flu vaccine is one of the most effective ways to prevent infection. The virus spreads through the nose and mouth during an incubation period of 2 to 4 days before reaching the lungs. By enhancing public understanding of these facts, EHS aims to reduce the risk of complications associated with seasonal influenza.
The campaign underscores the importance of vaccination as a preventive measure against seasonal influenza. Through collaboration with various health authorities and educational initiatives targeting different community segments, EHS strives to curb the spread of this viral infection effectively while promoting overall public health in line with national strategies.
