Emirates And ENOC Group Sign MoU To Develop Sustainable Aviation Fuel Supply In Dubai

Emirates and ENOC Group have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at Emirates' Dubai hub. The agreement was signed by Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Operating Officer, and Hussain Sultan Lootah, Acting CEO of ENOC Group, during the Dubai Airshow.

The MoU establishes a framework for conducting feasibility studies to evaluate SAF supply opportunities in Dubai. This includes assessing supply chain infrastructure, production capabilities, and commercial viability. A joint steering committee will oversee the evaluation process.

Emirates and ENOC Group Partner on SAF

ENOC will examine its potential role in local SAF production as part of this collaboration. The partnership aims to develop economically feasible SAF production and supply infrastructure in Dubai. This initiative aligns with the UAE's goal to supply 1 percent of jet fuel from locally produced SAF by 2031.

Adel Al Redha expressed that Emirates is committed to integrating sustainable aviation fuel into its operations. "Establishing a reliable SAF supply in our Dubai hub is a key priority," he stated. This collaboration allows them to assess viable pathways for integration.

Hussain Sultan Lootah highlighted ENOC's recognition of SAF's role in reducing carbon emissions in aviation. He said, "This MoU with Emirates reflects our shared commitment to developing local SAF production and the infrastructure needed to make low-carbon aviation a reality."

SAF is a safe and fully certified drop-in fuel compatible with existing aircraft fleets and airport infrastructure. It can be blended with conventional jet fuel at up to 50 percent, significantly lowering lifecycle carbon emissions.

Environmental Benefits

In its pure form, SAF can reduce lifecycle emissions by up to 80 percent compared to traditional jet fuel. This makes it an essential component in efforts to lower the aviation sector's carbon footprint.

This collaboration between Emirates and ENOC marks an important step towards achieving sustainable aviation goals in the UAE. By focusing on local production and infrastructure development, they aim to contribute significantly to reducing carbon emissions in aviation.
