Egypt Advocates For Ceasefire And Humanitarian Aid In Gaza Strip
Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi had a phone conversation with the UK's Prime Minister, Keir Starmer. President El-Sisi expressed Egypt's desire to strengthen cooperation, particularly in economic and investment sectors, and to boost trade between the two nations.
The discussion also covered international and regional issues. President El-Sisi shared Egypt's perspective on restoring security and stability in the Middle East, which is currently facing ongoing escalation. He highlighted Egypt's efforts to end the conflict in Gaza and facilitate the exchange of captives.

President El-Sisi stressed the importance of allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza to alleviate suffering and promote a political solution based on a two-state framework. The Spokesman for the Presidency, Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, noted that Prime Minister Starmer acknowledged Egypt's role and committed to maintaining close coordination with Egypt to ensure regional security and stability.
In another development, Egypt condemned remarks made by Israel's Finance Minister regarding the moral justification for starving Palestinian civilians in Gaza. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Thursday denouncing these comments as unacceptable and a clear violation of international humanitarian law and the four Geneva Conventions.
These laws require Israel, as an occupying power, to ensure the safety and basic living conditions for Palestinians under occupation. Egypt called on the international community to uphold these legal standards and address the hardships faced by civilians in Gaza.
Egypt reminded all parties that international humanitarian law has been developed over decades to combat practices violating human dignity. It urged for an effective global effort to address civilian tragedies in Gaza while preserving minimum legal and moral standards during conflicts.
The British prime minister recognised Egypt's significant role in regional stability. He affirmed his commitment to working closely with Egypt within joint efforts aimed at overcoming the current critical phase in the Middle East.
The call between President El-Sisi and Prime Minister Starmer underscored mutual interests in enhancing bilateral relations. Both leaders emphasised their dedication to fostering economic ties and increasing trade between their countries.
This conversation highlights ongoing diplomatic efforts by Egypt to play a pivotal role in addressing regional conflicts while seeking stronger international partnerships for economic growth.
