EGA Supplies First CelestiAL-R Billets To Leading Japanese Manufacturer Sankyo Tateyama
Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the UAE's largest industrial entity and a leading producer of premium aluminium, has announced a new agreement. They will supply CelestiAL-R billets to Sankyo Tateyama, a top Japanese manufacturer of aluminium components for architectural and industrial uses, through their strategic partner ITOCHU Corporation. This collaboration highlights EGA's commitment to sustainable aluminium production.
CelestiAL-R represents a pioneering blend of aluminium made using solar power and scrap metal. This innovation significantly cuts greenhouse gas emissions. Previously, EGA produced CelestiAL-R foundry alloys suitable for re-melting applications. The introduction of CelestiAL-R billets allows EGA to meet the growing demand for low-carbon aluminium in extrusion and forging processes.

In Japan, there is an increasing demand for low-carbon aluminium as industries strive to lower their carbon footprints in line with national net-zero goals. EGA and ITOCHU have been supplying aluminium ingots and billets to Sankyo Tateyama since 2024, including CelestiAL, which is solar-powered aluminium.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium, stated: "Our first production of CelestiAL-R billets is a step forward in expanding the portfolio of our most sustainable aluminium products. At EGA, we focus on innovation and flexibility in delivering the highest quality, low-carbon aluminium to meet specific customer needs. We value our long-standing partnership with Sankyo Tateyama and thank them for their continued trust in EGA."
The production of CelestiAL-R is tailored to customer specifications due to the high quality of EGA’s primary aluminium. Rigorous selection of scrap metal and the adaptability of EGA’s Casthouses further enhance this process. Scrap used for CelestiAL-R includes both post-consumer and pre-consumer industrial scrap.
Partnerships Driving Change
Shozo Hirano, President of Sankyo Tateyama, remarked: "Reducing Scope 3 CO2 emissions from aluminium raw material is a major challenge in achieving carbon neutral. By using CelestiAL-R in addition to CelestiAL, which is supplied by our long time partners EGA and ITOCHU Corporation, we aim to contribute to sustainable and affluent life."
All scrap arriving at EGA undergoes testing against 40 different chemical and other property requirements. This ensures that only high-quality materials are used in producing CelestiAL-R billets.
This collaboration between EGA, ITOCHU Corporation, and Sankyo Tateyama underscores a shared commitment to sustainability. By leveraging innovative technologies like solar power and recycling practices, these companies are contributing significantly towards reducing carbon emissions in the aluminium industry.
