EGA Reaches 50% Construction Milestone On UAE’s Largest Aluminium Recycling Plant Ahead Of Schedule

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has announced significant progress in constructing the UAE's largest aluminium recycling plant. The project, located next to EGA’s smelter in Al Taweelah, is now halfway complete, 42 days ahead of schedule. Over 1.2 million work hours have been logged without any Lost Time Incidents, marking a major milestone in its development.

The facility will process both post-consumer and pre-consumer aluminium scrap into high-quality billets branded as RevivAL by EGA. This initiative aims to retain aluminium scrap within the UAE, which is currently mostly exported for processing abroad. Once operational, EGA anticipates becoming the largest consumer of aluminium scrap in the country.

EGA Hits Halfway Mark on Recycling Plant

The new plant will feature the UAE's largest furnace with a melt rate of 17 tonnes per hour, expected to be fully installed by June. The first production of hot metal from this facility is anticipated in the first half of 2026. This development represents a significant step towards enhancing the local economy by reducing reliance on exports for aluminium processing.

Abdulnasser bin Kalban, EGA's CEO, highlighted the importance of recycling as a growth opportunity for both the industry and EGA. He stated, "Recycling is a key global growth opportunity for our industry and for EGA. We have made decisive steps in developing a global recycling business and here in the UAE, with the construction of the recycling plant."

EGA has also been expanding its global recycling business. In 2024, it acquired Leichtmetall in Europe and Spectro Alloys in the US to strengthen its position in recycled aluminium production. These acquisitions are part of EGA's strategy to meet increasing global demand for recycled aluminium, which is projected to double by 2040.

EGA was a pioneer in using solar power for commercial aluminium production under its CelestiAL brand. In 2023, it further expanded its low-carbon metal offerings by combining solar energy with recycled aluminium to reduce carbon emissions even more effectively.

This ambitious project aligns with EGA’s commitment to sustainability and innovation within the UAE’s industrial sector. By focusing on low-carbon solutions and expanding its recycling capabilities globally, EGA aims to meet future demands while supporting environmental goals.
