EEG Marks Earth Day 2025 With Planting Of 1,200 Mangroves In Umm Al Qaiwain

Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) celebrated Earth Day 2025 with a special event at Mangrove Beach in collaboration with Umm Al Qaiwain Municipality. This initiative, part of the "For Our Emirates We Plant" programme, involved planting 1,200 mangrove saplings. The effort brought together government bodies, private companies, academic institutions, and community volunteers to enhance the UAE’s green landscape.

Since 2007, EEG's initiatives have significantly contributed to reducing carbon emissions. Their efforts have removed over 186,213 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This aligns with the UAE's Net Zero by 2050 strategic plan. Mangroves were chosen for their exceptional ability to absorb up to four times more carbon dioxide than terrestrial forests.

The event supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as Climate Action and Life Below Water. It also aligns with the UAE's national theme for 2025, the Year of Community. This theme encourages collective environmental responsibility and action among citizens and organisations.

EEG Chairperson Habiba Al Mar’ashi expressed gratitude to participants and praised the ongoing partnership with Umm Al Qaiwain Municipality. She highlighted EEG’s role in national reforestation efforts, having planted over one million indigenous trees across the region. This collaboration is part of the UAE’s broader Plant the Emirates campaign.

The event saw support from various entities including Ayrat Kamaltinov, Grand Plaza Mövenpick Media City, Labotel LLC, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Middle East Energy Dubai, MidEast Data Systems LLC, Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach, National Bonds, Sahara Group, Sofitel Dubai Downtown, The Tower Plaza Hotel and United Hospitality Management. These organisations played a crucial role in making the event successful.

Mangroves not only help in carbon absorption but also protect coastlines and support marine biodiversity. The planting activity symbolised a shared commitment to climate resilience and a greener future for all involved. Participants were encouraged to continue engaging in environmental actions.

As the saplings took root at Mangrove Beach, they stood as a testament to collective efforts towards environmental sustainability. EEG concluded the event by urging continued public engagement in environmental initiatives under its motto: "Together for a Better Environment."
