EEG Concludes 25th Edition Of Students' Workshops Focusing On Sustainability And Environmental Action
The Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) recently wrapped up its 25th annual Student Workshops, conducted online from 20th to 22nd October. The theme was "Paradox of Choice: Protecting the Present, Cultivating the Future." This Silver Jubilee edition attracted over 400 students from 73 schools across the UAE, engaging them in sustainability-focused sessions to inspire responsible environmental actions.
Since its start in 2001, these workshops have reached more than 9,113 students and 1,693 teachers from over 1,755 schools in the UAE. The initiative aims to enhance environmental literacy, promote climate action, and encourage creative problem-solving among young people. Participants engage in activities that foster ethical environmental behaviour.

This year's programme aligned with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These included Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, Affordable and Clean Energy, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Climate Action. The event aimed to integrate these goals into the learning experience of participants.
The three-day event featured sessions tailored for juniors, sub-seniors, and seniors. EEG’s educational team designed these sessions to promote critical thinking, collaboration, and eco-conscious decision-making. Students explored innovative sustainability approaches through presentations and discussions.
The Seniors’ Workshop on 22nd October received support from National Bonds. They delivered a session focused on financial planning and literacy under the theme Conscious Spending. This session aimed to equip students with skills for responsible financial management alongside environmental awareness.
Habiba Al Mar’ashi, Co-Founder and Chairperson of EEG, highlighted the programme's impact over the years. "Over the past 25 years, this initiative has instilled purpose, innovation and responsibility in our youth. Investing in young minds drives lasting environmental and societal progress and strengthens our shared journey toward a sustainable and resilient future," she said.
EEG's Global Recognition
Established in 1991, EEG is notable for being the first environmental NGO globally to achieve ISO 14001 certification. It is also the only UAE organisation accredited by both the UN Convention to Combat Desertification and the UN Environment Programme. Additionally, EEG is part of several global initiatives like the UN Global Compact.
The workshops are designed not only to educate but also to inspire students towards taking meaningful actions for a sustainable future. By focusing on practical solutions and fostering an understanding of global challenges, EEG continues to play a vital role in shaping environmentally conscious leaders of tomorrow.
