Education Minister Yousef Al-Benyan Celebrates UNESCO Centre's 10th Anniversary And Launches New Identity

The 10th-anniversary celebration of the UNESCO Regional Center of Quality and Excellence in Education was held recently. Minister of Education Yousef Al-Benyan sponsored the event, which also marked the launch of the center's new identity. The ceremony took place at the Marine Club in Jubail Industrial City, attended by dignitaries, education specialists, and experts from both within and outside Saudi Arabia.

During his speech, Minister Al-Benyan emphasised that the regional center was established a decade ago in Saudi Arabia under UNESCO's supervision. He noted that it received strong support from the country's leadership to become a pioneering global entity focused on enhancing education quality. He highlighted the necessity of investing in educational excellence to tackle growing challenges.

Minister Al-Benyan Marks UNESCO Centre Anniversary

Minister Al-Benyan stressed that improving educational systems is crucial to align with Saudi Vision 2030. He pointed out that fostering innovative generations requires regional and international collaboration and knowledge exchange. This approach aims to harmonise educational advancements with the Kingdom's future aspirations.

The minister also honoured several cities for their contributions to learning initiatives. Jubail, Yanbu, Madinah, Al-Ahsa, and King Abdullah Economic City were recognised for their membership in the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities. These cities have demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and community development.

At the event's conclusion, a new platform called the Arab Network for Learning Cities was launched. This initiative focuses on monitoring community-driven educational projects and best practices for lifelong learning. Additionally, a strategic cooperation agreement with the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) was announced.

This agreement outlines a joint work plan between UIL and the regional center from 2024 to 2028. The collaboration aims to enhance joint efforts in education by sharing expertise and resources. Such partnerships are vital for advancing educational quality on both regional and international levels.

The minister reiterated that investing in quality education is essential due to challenges posed by rapid global developments. By strengthening cooperation with international partners, Saudi Arabia seeks to improve its educational systems in line with its vision for future growth and innovation.
