EDGE Group And Anduril Industries Establish Joint Venture To Develop Autonomous Systems For Defence And Civil Applications

EDGE and Anduril are forming a joint venture to enhance the development of autonomous systems for civil and defence missions in the Middle East. This collaboration strengthens the longstanding defence partnership between the United States and the United Arab Emirates, focusing on shared security and commercial interests. The venture aims to boost both nations' aerospace and defence sectors by co-developing advanced technologies.

The EDGE-Anduril Production Alliance will be established as a new jointly-owned entity. It will focus on production, sales, and sustainment of modern commercial and defence manufacturing in the region. This alliance combines EDGE's regional influence with Anduril's expertise in software-driven development. Together, they aim to deliver scalable systems ready for various applications.

New UAE-US Joint Venture for Autonomous Systems

Omen, an Autonomous Air Vehicle (AAV), is among the first systems to be co-developed under this venture. It combines endurance, payload capacity, and autonomy with a compact design. Omen is designed for long-range operations without needing a runway. Its lightweight frame allows easy transport and assembly by a two-person team.

The UAE has committed to acquiring 50 Omen systems, marking a significant investment that supports local production and accelerates future developments. These systems will be produced locally by the EDGE-Anduril Production Alliance in the UAE, while US orders will be fulfilled at Anduril’s Ohio facility.

Faisal Al Bannai, Chairman of EDGE Group, stated, "Our strategic partnership with Anduril opens new pathways for EDGE to harness some of the most advanced autonomous systems engineering in the world." Trae Stephens from Anduril added that innovation is measured by how quickly ideas become capabilities.

The joint venture will also provide EDGE access to Anduril’s Lattice software platform. This AI-driven command system enhances both new and existing joint venture projects. For Anduril, it establishes a trusted production base in the Middle East, allowing designs from California to be adapted for regional customers.

Expanding Capabilities

Omen will support diverse missions such as maritime surveillance and logistics resupply. Its open architecture allows reconfiguration for various tasks across defence and civilian domains. Beyond military use, Omen can serve commercial purposes like restoring connectivity after disasters or delivering supplies to remote areas.

The collaboration involves coordinating business development globally and managing a shared portfolio of autonomous systems. Proposed activities may require approval from US and UAE authorities to ensure compliance with applicable laws.

Future Prospects

Anduril is establishing a permanent presence in the UAE with a 50,000-square-foot research centre. This facility will support engineering, design, prototyping, and testing of advanced autonomous systems. By investing ahead of need, EDGE and Anduril aim to shorten the time between concept development and field deployment.

This joint venture represents progress towards a more agile industrial base capable of producing real systems at scale for essential missions. It highlights a commitment to developing self-reliant commercial and defence capabilities within the region.
