Faisal Alibrahim, Minister of Economy and Planning and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Statistics, expressed gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. This follows the Cabinet's approval of a new Statistics Law, marking a significant step in Saudi Arabia's statistical transformation.
The newly approved Statistics Law is designed to modernise governance and improve statistical quality in line with international standards. It aims to enhance transparency and enable both public and private sectors to utilise statistics effectively for decision-making. This aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Fahd bin Abdullah Aldossari, President of the General Authority for Statistics, highlighted that the Cabinet's decision underscores the leadership's strong support for the statistical sector. He noted that this development results from collaborative efforts between the authority and relevant entities, alongside a thorough examination of global statistical practices.
The new law will replace older regulations, specifically the General Statistics Law from Royal Decree No. (23) dated 07/12/1379H, and the General Population Census Law from Royal Decree No. (M/13) dated 23/04/1391H. This change signifies an important update in Saudi Arabia's approach to statistics.
Alibrahim emphasised that this law represents a pivotal moment in enhancing statistical work within Saudi Arabia. It will deepen its impact on supporting development plans by providing a robust regulatory framework that aligns with international principles.
Aldossari further explained that this law would increase the effectiveness and comprehensiveness of statistical work. By aligning with best international practices, it aims to develop a more efficient statistical system within the Kingdom.
This legislative change reflects an integrated effort to study both local and international experiences in statistics. The goal is to create a comprehensive system that supports informed decision-making across various sectors in Saudi Arabia.
The approval of this law is seen as a testament to the leadership's commitment to empowering the statistical sector. It highlights their dedication to fostering transparency and enabling data-driven strategies for national development goals.
